Setting reminder calls for elderly parents with Claude

Set caring reminder calls for a parent from your own Claude. It starts with a consent call to them, so they are always in the loop first.

Looking after an ageing parent often means holding a second mental checklist: did they take the tablets, do they remember the appointment. ReminderIt lets you set gentle reminder calls that go to their phone, arranged from your own Claude. Consent comes first, by design.

It starts with a consent call

Before you can send reminders to anyone else, you add them as a recipient. When you say "add my mum as a recipient, her number is...", Claude uses add_recipient, and ReminderIt places a consent call to that number. Your parent hears the request and agrees before any reminders can reach them.

This is deliberate. It means nobody receives automated calls they did not sign up for, and your parent knows from the outset what is being set up on their behalf.

Then schedule from your own account

Once they have consented, you build their reminders the same way you build your own, just directed to them. "Set a daily 9am call for my mum in Europe/London to take her morning tablets" becomes a create_reminder aimed at that recipient.

You can set as many as the situation needs: a morning medication call, a midday check-in, an evening reminder to lock up. Each reads your chosen message aloud in a warm, natural voice.

Keep track of who is set up

As you add more people or more reminders, "who are my recipients?" keeps things clear. Claude uses list_recipients to show everyone currently set up to receive calls, so you can confirm your parent is there and correctly listed.

If circumstances change, remove_recipient takes someone off the list. Saying "remove my mum as a recipient" stops their reminders and clears them from your account.

An example, end to end

In one sitting you might say: "Add my dad as a recipient on this number, then once he has consented set a 8am daily call in Europe/London reminding him to take his heart tablet, and a 7pm daily call to check he has eaten." Claude runs add_recipient, ReminderIt makes the consent call, and after he agrees the two create_reminder calls go through.

Ask "show me his upcoming calls" and Claude runs list_upcoming so you can see both reminders lined up at the right times in the right zone.

What the calls can and cannot do

Each reminder is a one-way call: ReminderIt rings your parent, reads the message, and hangs up. They cannot press a key or reply during the call, which keeps it simple and unintimidating for someone who finds menus fiddly.

If a call is missed, ReminderIt can follow up by WhatsApp so the reminder still lands. These calls are a caring nudge and a practical aid; they are not a substitute for medical care or for checking in yourself.
