Setting reminders for family over WhatsApp

Look after a parent or relative by chat: set them up as a care-recipient, then create and adjust their reminder calls from your own verified WhatsApp number.

Plenty of people who use ReminderIt are not setting reminders for themselves at all. They are keeping an eye on a parent, an aunt, or a partner who would rather answer a warm phone call than fiddle with an app.

WhatsApp is a natural place to run that from. You already have it open, and you can arrange and adjust the calls your relative receives without ever leaving the chat.

You manage; they receive the calls

The split is simple. You do the managing from your own verified WhatsApp, and the person you help receives the actual reminder calls on their phone. They do not need to learn anything or touch a dashboard.

That is why the chat channel suits carers so well. The fiddly part, wording and timing and rescheduling, stays with the capable person, while the relative just gets a clear, friendly call when it matters.

Setting someone up as a care-recipient

Before ReminderIt will call another person on your behalf, they are added to your account as a care-recipient. This is a deliberate consent step: adding them triggers a consent call to their number so they agree to receive reminders before anything is scheduled.

It means nobody is ever rung without having said yes first. Once your relative has confirmed, you can go ahead and set up their reminders and manage them by chat from then on.

What you can do from the chat

From your verified WhatsApp you can create a reminder for your relative, list what is already set, change the time or the wording, reschedule, or cancel. It is the same natural-language conversation you would use for your own reminders, just pointed at the person you look after.

There are no rigid commands to memorise. You describe what you want in plain English and the assistant confirms it back to you. Sensitive changes are protected by a PIN gate, so an open phone in a pocket cannot rearrange someone's care by accident.

Keeping it text and keeping it verified

A couple of ground rules keep this reliable. The chat is text only, so you type your requests rather than sending voice notes, and the number you message from has to be the verified one linked to your account.

If you ever message from an unlinked number, ReminderIt will simply point you to sign up and verify first. That verification is what ties the management side securely to you as the carer.

A quick example

Once your mother has accepted her consent call, a typical exchange looks like this:

You: Call Mum at 9am every day to take her morning tablets. ReminderIt: I'll ring your mum at 9:00am daily to take her morning tablets. She's confirmed as a care-recipient, so we're good to go. You: She's got a hospital visit Thursday, skip that day. ReminderIt: Understood, I'll skip Thursday's 9:00am call and resume on Friday.

Nothing there needed an app on her side. She answers her phone; you keep it all tidy from a chat on yours.
