Using AI to set up phone call reminders for elderly parents

Your AI assistant can schedule phone call reminders for your mum or dad. They just need to answer the phone — no app, no smartphone required.

Caring for an elderly parent from a distance means worrying about whether they've taken their medication, made it to an appointment, or just checked in. ReminderIt places real phone calls at the times you schedule — and you can set those reminders up through Claude or ChatGPT just by describing them in plain English.

Why phone calls work for older adults

App notifications, text reminders, and smartwatch alerts all assume a smartphone and the willingness to engage with it. A ringing telephone is universal and familiar — your parent answers it the same way they always have. No app to open, no notification to notice, no new technology to learn.

Setting it up with Claude

Connect ReminderIt to Claude via the MCP connector (see our setup guide). Then tell Claude: "Add my mum as a recipient — her name is Margaret and her number is +44 7700 900123." Once she's added: "Set a daily medication reminder for Margaret at 8am and 8pm London time."

Claude creates both reminders and ReminderIt places the calls directly to your mum's phone. You see the delivery history in your dashboard — answered, missed, WhatsApp fallback sent.

WhatsApp fallback for missed calls

If your parent misses the call, ReminderIt automatically sends the same reminder as a WhatsApp message. You can see both attempts in the delivery log, so you know whether the reminder got through without having to call to check.
