Linking your number to message ReminderIt on WhatsApp

Before you can text ReminderIt on WhatsApp, your number has to be linked to your account. Here is what verification does and why it matters.

The WhatsApp chat feels casual, but it is doing something serious: reading and changing the reminders on your account. For that to be safe, ReminderIt has to be certain the person messaging is really you. It does that by matching the number you message from against a verified number on your account.

Why a link is needed at all

WhatsApp identifies you by your phone number. ReminderIt uses that number as the key that ties the conversation to your account, so when you say "cancel my 8am call" it knows whose 8am call to cancel.

Without that link, the assistant would have no safe way to tell one person's reminders from another's. The verified number is the anchor that makes the whole chat personal to you.

What verifying actually does

When you add and verify a phone number on your ReminderIt account, you prove you control that handset. From then on, messages arriving from that number are trusted as coming from you, and the assistant will act on them.

It is a one-time setup per number. Once linked, you simply open WhatsApp and start typing; there is no separate login step each time.

If your number is not recognised

Message from a number that is not on any account and ReminderIt cannot help yet. Instead of guessing, it tells you to sign up at reminderit.com and verify the number first.

This is deliberate. It keeps random or spoofed numbers from poking at accounts, and it means every action in the chat can be tied back to a real, verified owner.

Setting the link up

You: Hi, can you set a reminder for me?

ReminderIt: I don't recognise this number yet. To chat here, add and verify it on your ReminderIt account at reminderit.com, then message me again from the same number.

Once verified, the very next message is treated as yours and the assistant gets straight to work.

Keeping the link secure

Because the link rests on your number, a PIN gate sits in front of sensitive actions as a second check, and you can reply STOP at any time to opt out of messaging. Together they mean the convenience of a verified number never becomes a soft spot.
