Cancelling a reminder call by WhatsApp message

No longer need that call? Tell the ReminderIt WhatsApp assistant to cancel it, get a confirmation, and learn how cancelling differs from a snooze.

Sometimes a reminder has simply done its job, or the thing it was for has been sorted already. Rather than letting an unwanted call ring through, you can cancel it in seconds from WhatsApp.

This post covers how to cancel cleanly, how ReminderIt confirms it, and the important difference between cancelling for good and merely pausing or snoozing.

Asking it to cancel

Message the ReminderIt WhatsApp number and say what you want gone, for example "cancel my 6:30am wake-up call" or "cancel the dentist reminder". You are talking to the same assistant that made the reminder, so it can find it and remove it.

If you are not sure of the exact wording, ask "what reminders do I have?" first. The list makes it easy to name the one you mean.

It confirms so nothing goes quietly

Cancelling is a change worth being sure about, so ReminderIt replies to confirm that the reminder is cancelled and will not call again. If the request was ambiguous, it checks with you before removing anything.

Because cancelling is a more sensitive action, you may be asked for your PIN first. That gate is there so a reminder cannot be wiped by someone who happens to pick up your phone.

Cancel, snooze or pause: which is which

Cancelling removes the reminder. It will not ring today and it will not come back; if you want it again later you would set it up fresh.

Snoozing is the opposite of final. When a reminder reaches you, a snooze simply asks it to call again in about ten minutes. Pausing sits in between: the reminder stays in your account but stops calling until you resume it, which suits a routine you want to switch off for a holiday and switch back on afterwards.

A real exchange

You: Cancel my 6:30am wake-up call

ReminderIt: Just to confirm, that is the daily 6:30am wake-up call. Cancel it for good?

You: Yes

ReminderIt: Cancelled. That reminder won't call you again. You can set a new one any time.

If you only wanted to skip today

Cancelling a recurring reminder stops the whole routine, not just the next call. If you only want to miss one occurrence, say so, for example "skip tomorrow's call", and the routine carries on afterwards.

Keeping that distinction clear saves you rebuilding a daily reminder just because you did not need it on one particular morning.
