Setting a reminder over a back-and-forth WhatsApp chat

You do not have to say everything in one message. ReminderIt holds a short conversation so multi-step reminders can unfold over a few replies.

Not every reminder arrives fully formed in your head. Sometimes you start typing, realise you have not decided the time, and want to figure it out as you go. ReminderIt supports that because the WhatsApp chat is a genuine conversation, not a one-shot command box.

This post explains the conversation window, how multi-step flows work, and the one limit to keep in mind: it is text only.

A real conversation window

For roughly fifteen minutes of active chat, ReminderIt keeps the thread of what you are doing. That means it can ask a question, wait for your answer, and carry on from where you left off instead of forgetting the moment you stop typing.

It makes the assistant feel less like a search box and more like texting a helpful person who remembers what you just said.

Multi-step flows in practice

Because context is held, you can build a reminder across messages. Start with the task, let it ask for the time, reply with the time, and confirm, each in its own message.

The same applies when you are unsure. If it asks which time zone and you need a second to think, your next message still lands in the same flow.

Text only, and why that matters here

Everything happens in text. There is no voice-note or audio option inbound, so type your side of the conversation rather than recording it.

For a back-and-forth flow this is actually convenient: short typed replies like a time or a yes keep the exchange fast and unambiguous.

A stepwise example

You: I need a reminder about my dentist

ReminderIt: Happy to help. What day and time should I call you?

You: Thursday, but I'm not sure of the time yet

ReminderIt: No problem, I'll hold this. Message me the time when you know and I'll finish booking Thursday's dentist reminder.

You: 2:15pm

ReminderIt: Booked, Thursday 2:15pm (Europe/London) for your dentist.

Picking up where you left off

If the window closes before you finish, nothing is lost, you simply start the message again and the assistant helps from scratch. Within the window, though, you get the smooth, human feel of a chat that follows along.

Try a stepwise reminder next time you are undecided; it is often easier than forcing every detail into one line.
