Changing a reminder's voice from Claude

A reminder call is only as good as the voice that reads it. A pace and accent that suit you might be wrong for an elderly parent, and a wake-up call wants a different tone from a gentle evening nudge. ReminderIt lets Claude browse the voice catalogue, play you samples, and apply your choice either to one reminder or to your whole account.

Hearing the options first

Start by asking Claude what is available: "What voices can I choose from?" pulls the catalogue with list_voices, which covers different languages and accents across quality tiers. To actually hear one before committing, say "Play me a sample of that voice" and Claude uses preview_voice to read a short clip.

Previewing is the important step. A voice that looks right on a list can feel too brisk or too formal once you hear it read your reminder aloud.

One reminder, or every reminder

There are two levels of control, and Claude picks the right one from how you ask. To change a single reminder, say "Use the calmer voice for my bedtime call" and Claude applies set_reminder_voice to that reminder only. Everything else keeps its current voice.

To change the default that new reminders inherit, say "Make that my default voice from now on" and Claude uses set_voice_settings on your account. Existing reminders with their own voice keep it; the default applies where none was chosen.

A worked example

Suppose your mother's medication call sounds too fast. You might say: "List the voices, then play me a slower, warmer one in a British accent." Claude runs list_voices and preview_voice so you can listen.

Once you like one, follow with "Set that voice just for Mum's 9am tablets reminder." Claude calls set_reminder_voice on that reminder. To hear the result end to end, add "Now ring me to test it" and it places a test call in the new voice.

Language and accent tiers

The catalogue spans multiple languages and regional accents, grouped into quality tiers so you can weigh naturalness against your plan. If you set a reminder for a relative who is more comfortable in another language, choosing a matching voice can make the call far easier to follow.

Ask Claude to filter as you browse, for example "Show me the Spanish voices" or "Which of these sound most natural?", and it narrows the list with list_voices before you preview.

Switching back

Changed your mind on a per-reminder voice? Tell Claude to revert it and the reminder falls back to your account default. Because voice changes are just words in a chat, experimenting costs nothing except the odd test call from your monthly quota.
