Changing a reminder's voice from ChatGPT

Browse voices, preview them and set the one you like on a reminder, all by chatting to ChatGPT. Real tools, one worked example.

The voice that reads your reminder aloud makes a real difference to whether the call lands well, a gentle wake-up wants a different tone from a firm deadline nudge. With ChatGPT connected to ReminderIt, you can browse, preview and set voices entirely in conversation.

This post covers the four tools involved and how to use them without touching a settings screen.

Browse with list_voices

Start by asking ChatGPT "what voices can my reminders use?". It calls list_voices and reads back the options available to you. This is your menu before you choose anything.

You do not have to memorise names; you can describe what you want, warmer, calmer, more upbeat, and let ChatGPT match it to one of the listed voices.

Hear one with preview_voice

Names tell you little until you hear them. Ask ChatGPT to preview a voice and it calls preview_voice so you can listen to a sample before committing. Compare a couple and pick the one that fits the reminder's mood.

Previewing first saves you from setting a voice, waiting for a real call, and only then deciding it is not right.

Apply it: per reminder or account-wide

To give one specific reminder its own voice, ask ChatGPT to set_reminder_voice on that reminder. To remove that override later so it follows your default again, ask it to clear_reminder_voice.

To change your default across everything, that is set_voice_settings, with get_voice_settings to check what your current preferences are. So you can have a calm default and a single, more insistent voice on the one call you must not miss.

A worked example

Prompt: "Show me the available voices, let me hear the warmest two, then set the nicer one on my 7am wake-up call."

ChatGPT calls list_voices, then preview_voice on the two candidates so you can listen, then set_reminder_voice on your wake-up reminder with your choice. Ask it to run test_call afterwards and your phone rings straight away in the new voice so you can confirm it before tomorrow morning.
