Rescheduling reminder calls in ChatGPT

Plans change. Move a reminder call to a new time, day or time zone from ChatGPT with update_reminder, then confirm the new schedule before you rely on it.

A reminder you set last week rarely survives contact with a shifting calendar. The good news is you do not have to delete and rebuild it. From ChatGPT you can move an existing reminder call in place, and this guide shows exactly how.

Point to the reminder you mean

Rescheduling starts with ChatGPT knowing which call you are talking about. Describe it the way you remember it: "Move my 8am medication call to 9am," or "change my Monday timesheet reminder to Tuesday."

If you have several similar reminders, ask "what reminders do I have?" first. ChatGPT lists them with list_reminders so you can point clearly at the right one before changing it.

Changing the time

To shift when a call happens, just say the new time: "Reschedule my morning tablet call to 8:30am Europe/London." ChatGPT applies it with update_reminder, editing the existing reminder rather than creating a second one.

The wording, voice and everything else stay as they were. Only the timing moves, which is usually all you want.

Changing days or recurrence

You can move the pattern too, not just the clock time. "Change my weekday reminder to weekends only" or "make my weekly call happen every two weeks instead" both go through update_reminder.

ChatGPT re-expresses the recurrence, adjusting the underlying cron expression or interval, and confirms the new pattern back to you.

Confirm the new time zone

Rescheduling is a common moment for zones to slip, especially if you have travelled since you first set the call. If the new time should be in a different zone, say so: "Reschedule it to 7am America/New_York."

ReminderIt schedules against IANA zones, so let ChatGPT read the new time and zone back to you and confirm it is right before you move on.

A worked example, end to end

Suppose your 6:30am weekday wake-up now needs to be 7am and only on weekdays you work from the office, Tuesday to Thursday. You say: "Change my 6:30am weekday wake-up to 7am, Tuesdays to Thursdays, Europe/London."

ChatGPT updates the reminder in place and confirms "7am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Europe/London." To be certain it took, ask "show me my upcoming calls" and check the next occurrences with list_upcoming.
