WhatsApp fallback: how ReminderIt handles missed AI-scheduled calls
A missed call isn't a missed reminder. ReminderIt automatically sends a WhatsApp follow-up — and you can manage it all through Claude.
Even the most reliable reminder system has to handle the reality that sometimes people can't pick up the phone. ReminderIt's WhatsApp fallback automatically sends the same reminder as a message if the call goes unanswered — so the reminder still gets through without you having to set up anything extra.
How the fallback works
When a ReminderIt call is not answered within the timeout period, the system automatically sends a WhatsApp message to the same number with the same reminder content. Both the call attempt and the WhatsApp message appear in your delivery history. You can see whether each reminder was received by call, by WhatsApp, or missed entirely.
Asking Claude about delivery
Ask Claude "Did my medication reminder reach Mum this morning?" and it will check the delivery logs via the get_recent_calls tool and report back: answered on the call, missed the call but WhatsApp delivered, or both missed. This gives you visibility without having to log into the dashboard.
When to rely on WhatsApp fallback
For non-critical reminders, WhatsApp fallback is usually sufficient. For medication-critical or time-sensitive reminders, consider setting a second reminder 15 minutes later as a backup call, in addition to the WhatsApp fallback. You can ask Claude to set this up automatically.
