The 24-hour window and your WhatsApp reminders

WhatsApp's 24-hour window is why chatting with ReminderIt is free once you message first. Here's what it means, and why your scheduled calls are unaffected.

If you have ever wondered why messaging ReminderIt on WhatsApp costs nothing, the answer is a WhatsApp platform rule called the 24-hour customer-service window. It is not something ReminderIt invented; it is how WhatsApp treats business accounts across the board.

Understanding it makes the whole channel click into place: why you message first, why the replies flow freely, and why your scheduled reminder calls carry on regardless of any chat.

What the 24-hour window actually is

WhatsApp lets a business reply freely to you for 24 hours after your most recent message to it. Send a message, and a rolling 24-hour window opens during which the business can answer as much as the conversation needs, at no per-message cost. Message again and the clock resets.

That single rule is what makes the ReminderIt chat feel like texting a helpful person. You say what you need, it replies, you refine, it confirms, all inside that open window. This is why the inbound chat is free and unmetered rather than dipping into any allowance.

Why you message first

Because the window opens on your message, you always start the conversation. You send the first line to the ReminderIt WhatsApp number, and that is the moment the assistant can talk back freely. It is the reverse of a business cold-messaging you out of the blue.

In practice this is exactly what you want anyway. You reach out when you have something to set or change, the assistant answers there and then, and the exchange stays a normal back-and-forth for the roughly 15-minute conversation window it keeps open on its side.

Free chat versus metered calls

It helps to separate two things. The chatting itself, inside the 24-hour window, is free and subject only to fair-use limits that keep the channel healthy. Creating, listing, editing, rescheduling, cancelling, marking done or snoozing a reminder by message costs you nothing.

The outbound reminder calls are the metered part. When ReminderIt actually rings your phone at the scheduled time, that draws on your pooled monthly call allowance (Free gives 5, Pro gives 70). So the conversation is free; the phone call it schedules is what counts.

Your scheduled calls fire independently

This is the key reassurance: a reminder call does not depend on any chat window being open. Once a reminder exists, it fires at its set local time whether or not you have messaged recently and whether or not a 24-hour window happens to be open.

The window governs the free chat channel only. Your 8am medication call or your Friday appointment call is a scheduled event in your account; it runs on its own timing, entirely separate from whether you last texted ReminderIt an hour ago or a fortnight ago.

A quick example

Say you open WhatsApp on Monday morning:

You: Set a reminder to call me at 8am every weekday to take my tablets. ReminderIt: Done. I'll call you at 8:00am on weekdays to take your tablets. Reply STOP anytime to opt out. You (a moment later): Actually make it 8:15. ReminderIt: Updated to 8:15am on weekdays. ✅

Both replies landed inside the window your first message opened, so the exchange was free. From Tuesday onward the calls arrive at 8:15am on their own schedule, with no further messaging needed on your part.
