Building an AI caregiver reminder system with Claude and ReminderIt
Claude can set up a complete caregiving reminder schedule for a loved one — medication, meals, appointments — all delivered as real phone calls.
Coordinating care for an elderly relative involves dozens of recurring tasks: medication at multiple times a day, meals, physiotherapy appointments, doctor check-ins. Keeping track of all of this manually is exhausting. With Claude and ReminderIt, you can build a complete phone call reminder system in one conversation.
Adding a care recipient
Start by telling Claude: "Add my father as a care recipient. His name is John, his number is +44 7700 900456, and his relationship to me is Father." Claude uses the add_recipient tool to add him. ReminderIt sends John a verification call to confirm his number.
Setting up the reminder schedule
Now build the schedule: "Set John's morning medication reminder at 8am every day London time. Set his lunch reminder at 12:30pm on weekdays. Set his evening medication at 7pm every day. Set a physio appointment reminder every Tuesday at 2:45pm." Claude creates all four reminders assigned to John, who receives the calls directly.
Monitoring delivery
Ask Claude 'Did John's morning call go through today?' and it will check the delivery logs and report back — answered, missed, or WhatsApp fallback sent. If a pattern of missed calls emerges, you'll know to check in.
Adjusting for changes
When the appointment changes: "Move John's physio reminder to Thursday at 3pm next week only." Claude updates just that occurrence. When he's in hospital: "Pause all of John's reminders for the next two weeks." This flexibility is what makes an AI caregiver assistant genuinely useful over time.
