Missed Your Weekly Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro Injection? The Catch-Up Rules

Missed your weekly Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound injection? Each label has its own catch-up window: 5 days, 4 days, or the Wegovy 2-day rule. What to do, when to skip, changing your day, and how to stop missing it.

A once-a-week injection is easy to take and easy to forget. There's no daily habit to anchor it to, so the day slides past, and on Thursday you suddenly wonder whether you did Sunday's dose.

If that's where you are now: don't double up, and don't panic. Each of these medicines has a "catch-up window" written into its official label. If you're still inside it, you take the missed dose. If you're past it, you skip it and carry on as normal on your usual day.

The catch is that the window is not the same for every medicine, and for Wegovy it even differs between the US and the UK. Here's what the official labels say, and a simple way to stop it happening again.

This is a summary of the official product information, not medical advice. If your doctor, nurse or pharmacist has given you different instructions, follow theirs. If you're unsure, call your pharmacist; they can usually answer this in a minute.

The catch-up windows at a glance

MedicineIf you remember in timeToo late: skip itChanging your injection day
Ozempic (US label)Within 5 days of the missed doseMore than 5 days have passedAllowed if at least 2 days (48 hours) between doses
Ozempic (UK leaflet)5 days or less since it was dueMore than 5 daysAllowed if at least 3 days since your last injection
Wegovy injection (US label)Your next dose is more than 2 days awayYour next dose is less than 2 days awayNot covered in the US label; ask your prescriber
Wegovy injection (UK leaflet)5 days or less since it was dueMore than 5 daysAllowed if at least 3 days since your last injection
Mounjaro (US and UK)Within 4 days (96 hours)More than 4 daysAllowed if at least 3 days (72 hours) between doses
Zepbound (US)Within 4 days (96 hours)More than 4 daysAllowed if at least 3 days (72 hours) between doses

In every case, once you've caught up or skipped, your next dose goes back on your usual day. The labels don't ask you to shift your whole schedule because of one late dose.

Worked example: your injection day is Sunday

Say you normally inject on Sunday morning and you forgot.

  • Ozempic: you can still take it up to Friday (within 5 days). From Saturday, skip it and inject as normal on Sunday.
  • Mounjaro or Zepbound: you can take it up to Thursday morning (within 96 hours). After that, skip it and wait for Sunday.
  • Wegovy, US label: take it as long as your next Sunday dose is more than 2 days away, so roughly up to Friday morning. If Sunday is less than 48 hours away, skip it.
  • Wegovy, UK leaflet: same as Ozempic. Up to Friday, take it; from Saturday, skip it.

If you're right on the edge (for example, it's Thursday evening and you're on Mounjaro), that's exactly the moment to ring your pharmacist rather than guess.

Never "make up" with a double dose

All of these labels say the same thing in different words: don't take two doses close together to make up for the one you missed. The UK Ozempic leaflet, for example, says plainly: "Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose." The labels also set a minimum gap between any two doses (2 or 3 days, depending on the medicine), as shown in the table above.

What if you missed two weeks or more?

This is where you should talk to your prescriber before your next injection. For Wegovy, the US label says that if 2 or more doses in a row are missed, the dose escalation should be restarted at a lower dose. Other medicines may need a similar conversation, especially if you were on a high dose. Don't just jump back in at your old dose after a long gap without checking.

Can I take it a day early, or at a different time?

A different time of day is fine for these weekly injections. The UK Wegovy leaflet, for example, says you can inject at any time of day, regardless of meals. What matters is the day.

A day early is really the same as changing your injection day. Ozempic, Mounjaro and Zepbound allow that, as long as the minimum gap since your last dose is respected (see the table). After that, the new day becomes your weekly day. If you travel often or your weekends are unpredictable, it may be worth moving your injection to a calmer weekday once, rather than shuffling it every week.

Wegovy tablets are different

Wegovy now also comes as a daily tablet in the US, and its missed-dose rule is simpler: skip the missed tablet and take the next one the following day. Don't confuse it with the injection's 2-day rule.

Why weekly doses are so easy to miss

Daily medicines piggyback on daily habits: breakfast, brushing your teeth, going to bed. A weekly dose has nothing like that. Common reasons people miss it:

  • The day moves. A late Saturday night turns into a slow Sunday, and the injection never happens.
  • You can't remember if you did it. Without a record, you're stuck choosing between a possible double dose and a possible skip.
  • Travel and holidays. The pen is in the fridge at home, or the routine just falls apart.
  • Phone notifications get swiped away. A weekly alert looks like every other alert.

A few things that help:

  1. Pick a day that's the same every week, not a busy one. Many people pick a calm weekday evening.
  2. Keep a simple log. Write the date and the injection site on a calendar or in your notes each time. This answers "did I do it?" instantly. It also helps you rotate sites.
  3. Set a backup check. One reminder on injection day, and a second the next morning: "Did you do your injection yesterday? If not, check the catch-up window."
  4. Plan around travel. Before a trip, check whether your injection day falls while you're away, and how you'll store the pen.

How ReminderIt helps

A weekly reminder only works if you actually notice it. ReminderIt calls your phone at the time you choose and reads your reminder out loud, for example: "It's Sunday, 9am. Time for your weekly injection. Write it in your log." If you miss the call, the reminder arrives on WhatsApp too.

You can set it up just by sending a WhatsApp message, such as "Call me every Sunday at 9am to take my injection". There's no app to install, and you can send a voice note instead of typing. It's also easy to add the next-morning backup check: "Call me every Monday at 8am to check I did my injection."

If you look after a parent who's on a weekly injection, you can set the reminder to ring their phone instead. They confirm their number once with a short verification call, so nobody gets calls they didn't agree to. See our guide on setting a reminder for someone else.

A weekly reminder uses only four or five calls a month. There's a 7-day free trial with 7 reminder calls (3 if your number is in a country where calls cost more, which includes the UK). After that it's one plan: $7 a month, or ₹299 a month in India.

The short answer

If you missed your weekly injection, check how long it's been. Ozempic: take it within 5 days, otherwise skip it. Mounjaro and Zepbound: take it within 4 days (96 hours), otherwise skip it. Wegovy: in the US, take it if your next dose is more than 2 days away, otherwise skip it; the UK leaflet uses the 5-day rule instead. Either way, go back to your usual day afterwards, and never take a double dose. If you've missed two or more weeks, speak to your prescriber before restarting.
