How to set a different voice for each reminder in ReminderIt

Your account has a default voice, but every individual reminder can have its own — different accent, personality, or speaking rate. Useful for reminders for different people or different contexts.

Most reminder services give you one voice setting for all your calls. ReminderIt goes further: you can assign a completely different voice to each individual reminder. A gentle, warm voice for medication reminders. A more upbeat, energetic tone for workout calls. A different language for a family member who prefers to hear reminders in their mother tongue. Per-reminder voice customisation is one of those features that feels minor until you use it — and then you can't imagine going back.

Why different voices for different reminders

Your brain processes different voices in different contexts. A calm, unhurried voice is ideal for a medication reminder or an evening wind-down call. A crisper, more energetic voice works better for a morning alarm or a workout prompt. When every reminder sounds identical, the voice becomes part of the background — just like a repeated notification sound loses its urgency over time.

Per-reminder voices also solve a practical problem when you're managing reminders for multiple people. If you're using ReminderIt's recipient feature to send calls to an elderly parent who speaks Spanish, you want their calls in Spanish, while yours stay in English. A single account voice setting can't handle that.

How to enable a custom voice for a reminder

When creating or editing a reminder, scroll to the 'Custom voice for this reminder' section and toggle it on. You'll see the full voice gallery — the same selection available in voice settings — filtered to your chosen language. Pick a voice, set the personality (gentle, energetic, and more), adjust the speaking rate with a simple slider, and save. That reminder will now use that voice, independently of every other reminder on your account.

The speaking rate slider is worth experimenting with. A slightly slower speaking rate makes it easier to catch every word when you're half-asleep; a faster rate works better for a quick mid-day nudge. You can preview any voice before setting it.

Using voice overrides for multilingual households

If you have reminders going to multiple people — your own reminders plus calls for a partner or parent — you can assign the appropriate language and voice to each reminder independently. English for yours, Spanish for theirs, all managed from one account. The recipient feature and per-reminder voice work together seamlessly.

Language support includes English (multiple accents), Spanish, French, and more — check the full list in the voice settings. For each language, there are multiple voices to choose from, so you can find one that feels natural and appropriate.

The speaking rate and personality settings

Beyond choosing a voice, you can also adjust the personality of each call — the speaking style, the warmth of delivery, and the phrasing. A 'gentle' personality delivers the message in a softer, more supportive tone, appropriate for health-related reminders. The speaking rate slider lets you fine-tune from slightly slower (0.8×) to slightly faster (1.2×) than the standard pace.

These aren't just cosmetic options — they affect how well the reminder lands. A voice that matches the context of the reminder is one that your brain registers properly, rather than filtering out as background noise.
