Holiday Shipping Deadlines 2026: USPS and FedEx Dates for Christmas Delivery
The 2026 Christmas shipping cut-offs from USPS and FedEx, what they actually promise, and a simple reminder plan so your gifts arrive on time.

Every December the same thing happens: the gifts are bought, wrapped and sitting by the door, and then someone checks the carrier's website and realises the last sensible day to send them was yesterday. The 2026 dates are already out for USPS and FedEx. Here they are in one place, with what they do and don't promise, and a simple way to make sure you actually act on them.
USPS 2026 recommended send-by dates
USPS published its recommended dates in September for delivery by December 25. For the contiguous United States (the lower 48):
- USPS Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail: December 17
- Priority Mail: December 18
- Priority Mail Express: December 19
For Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and US territories, Ground Advantage moves earlier to December 16; First-Class Mail (Dec 17), Priority Mail (Dec 18) and Priority Mail Express (Dec 19) stay the same.
These are recommendations, not guarantees. USPS said its dates for military (APO/FPO/DPO) and international mail would appear on its holiday shipping page from mid-October, and those are much earlier, so check usps.com if you're sending abroad or to someone serving overseas.
FedEx 2026 last days to ship
FedEx's 2026 chart targets arrival by December 24:
- FedEx Ground Economy: December 15
- FedEx Ground / Home Delivery, 5-day transit: December 17
- 4-day transit: December 18
- 3-day transit: December 21
- FedEx Express Saver: December 21
- 2-day transit Ground, and FedEx 2Day / 2Day AM: December 22
- 1-day transit Ground, and FedEx overnight services: December 23
- FedEx SameDay: December 24
Ground transit time depends on the origin and destination ZIP codes, so look up your own route on fedex.com rather than assuming the shortest one.
What about UPS?
As of mid-October 2026, UPS had not yet published its official 2026 last-day-to-ship dates; some shipping sites list projected dates, but treat those as estimates. Check ups.com in November. If past years are a guide, UPS Ground lands in the same mid-December window as USPS and FedEx Ground.
Why the deadline is earlier than it looks
The carrier date is the day the parcel needs to be in the carrier's hands, not the day you start thinking about it. Work backwards: you need to buy packaging, print a label, maybe queue at the post office, and that queue in the week of December 14 is famously long. If you're ordering something online to then send on, add the retailer's own shipping time on top.
A practical rule: aim to post everything domestic by the weekend of December 12–13, a few days ahead of the earliest Ground deadlines. That leaves a buffer for weather delays and the one parcel you forgot.
A simple reminder plan
Three dated prompts cover almost everyone:
- Early November: check international and military dates and post anything going abroad.
- Around December 7: "Christmas parcels: buy boxes, print labels, address list ready?"
- December 12 (morning): "Post the Christmas parcels today. USPS Ground deadline is Dec 17."
Add one more for December 18 only if you're willing to pay for Priority Mail; after that you're into express prices.
How ReminderIt helps
A calendar notification is easy to swipe away in a busy December. ReminderIt rings your phone at the time you choose and reads the reminder out, then sends it on WhatsApp with Done and Snooze buttons, and if you miss the call it tries once more a few minutes later.
Setting it up takes one message on WhatsApp: "Remind me on December 12 at 9am to post the Christmas parcels." You can also remind a parent or partner who's doing the posting. There's a 7-day free trial, no card, then plans start at $7 a month.
