Late fees are rarely about money you did not have; they are about a due date that slipped past unnoticed. A phone call a few days before each bill is due closes that gap without you having to keep a mental calendar.

This guide shows how to set recurring monthly bill-reminder calls through ChatGPT in a single message, using a monthly cron so each call lands on the same date every month.

Pick the day that gives you time

Aim the call a few days ahead of the actual due date, not on it. If the rent is due on the 1st, a call on the 28th leaves room to move money or fix a failed payment before anything is late.

Decide the reminder day for each bill first, then hand the whole list to ChatGPT in one go.

Monthly cron, once a month on a fixed date

A bill that recurs on the same date each month is a monthly cron. 0 9 28 * * means 9am on the 28th of every month; 0 9 1 * * means 9am on the 1st. ChatGPT fills in the day-of-month from your request.

One caution worth knowing: dates like the 29th to 31st do not exist in every month, so for reliability across all months prefer a day from the 1st to the 28th.

Set several bills in one message

You do not need a separate conversation per bill. List them together, each with a day and the amount or account to mention, and ChatGPT makes one create_reminder call per bill. Remember each recurring call draws on your monthly allowance: Free includes 5 calls a month, Pro includes 70.

Keep the spoken message specific, for example "your electricity bill is due in three days", so the call tells you exactly what to act on.

Example: a monthly rent reminder

Type: "Call me at 9am on the 28th of every month, Europe/London, to pay my rent before the 1st." ChatGPT uses create_reminder with the monthly cron 0 9 28 * * in Europe/London.

Confirm with "show my upcoming calls" so ChatGPT runs list_upcoming and you can see next month's date. To add more, just say "also call me on the 5th each month for the phone bill" and it adds another reminder.

If you miss the call
