Centrelink Reporting Date: What Happens If You Forget to Report?
Centrelink reporting dates come every 14 days, and the deadline is 5pm. What happens if you forget, the 13-day window to catch up online, checking pre-filled income, and how to stop the date slipping past.

If you get JobSeeker Payment, Youth Allowance as a job seeker, Parenting Payment or another Centrelink income support payment with scheduled reporting, the one date that matters most is your reporting date. It comes round every two weeks, and Services Australia is blunt about what happens if it slips past: "If you don't report by your reporting date, we won't pay you."
The good news is that a missed report is usually fixable if you act quickly. This guide covers when you have to report, what counts as late, how long you have to catch up, and how to make sure the date never sneaks past you again.
This is general information taken from Services Australia's own pages. ReminderIt is not connected to Services Australia or Centrelink. Rules differ between payments, so check your own payment's page or your myGov account for anything that applies to you.
When is my Centrelink reporting date?
If you have scheduled reporting, Services Australia says you report "usually every 14 days, on a date we tell you." Your reporting date is set for you; you don't choose it.
To see it, sign in to myGov with your Centrelink online account linked, or use the Express Plus Centrelink app. You can see your reporting dates 12 weeks in advance, which is handy for setting reminders (more on that below).
Three rules people often miss:
- Report by 5pm on the day. Services Australia asks you to report your income and changes in circumstances "by 5pm on your reporting date."
- Report even if you earned nothing. For JobSeeker, you still need to report every 2 weeks "even if you and your partner aren't working." A nil report is still a report.
- Report gross pay. That's the amount before tax and other deductions, the figure on your payslip. Your partner's employment income counts too.
What happens if you forget to report?
Here is what Services Australia says, in order of how bad it gets:
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| You report after 5pm, or a day or two late | Your payment is late. Services Australia: "If you report late, your payment will be late." |
| You don't report by your reporting date | You aren't paid for that fortnight until you report. |
| You report online up to 13 days after your reporting date | You can still report online, and you're paid after you report. |
| You're more than 13 days late | You can no longer report online. You need to call your regular payment line. |
| You keep not reporting | For JobSeeker: "If you don't report every 2 weeks, your payment will stop." |
So if you've just realised you forgot, report today. The online window is 13 days after the reporting date, and each day you wait is another day without your payment.
How to report
You can report:
- Online, through your Centrelink online account in myGov.
- On the Express Plus Centrelink app.
- By phone, on the Centrelink reporting line, 133 276 (13 EARN), or your regular payment line.
If you have trouble reporting online, or aren't sure how to report back pay, Services Australia asks you to call the Centrelink Employment Services Line.
If you'd like someone else to handle it, a family member or an organisation can be set up as your nominee and report for you.
Check the pre-filled figures before you submit
Your report may arrive with your employment income already filled in. This comes from Single Touch Payroll (STP), the pay information your employer sends to the Australian Taxation Office each time they pay you.
Pre-filled doesn't mean correct. Services Australia says to check it against your payslip and to edit it or add anything missing before you submit. Once you confirm it, Centrelink uses it to work out your payment. If you spot an error after you've submitted, you have to call your regular payment line and upload evidence, such as a payslip.
Made a mistake? Fix it now, not next fortnight
If you report the wrong amount, you can correct it in your online account or the app. Services Australia's advice is: "Don't wait until your next reporting day to tell us if you make a mistake." You can't fix a mistake online for a reporting period more than 6 fortnights in the past; for anything older, you have to call.
Centrelink uses your report to pay you the right amount, so the figures matter as much as the date. Services Australia also warns that if you report late, "your payment may be delayed or cancelled."
Doesn't Centrelink already send a reminder?
Yes. If you report each fortnight, Services Australia sends an SMS reminder on the day your report is due, as long as it has your mobile number. It also sends one if you're on a variable reporting arrangement, or if a public holiday means you have to report early. You can choose to get the reminder in your myGov Inbox or by post instead.
The catch is timing. The text arrives on the day itself, and the deadline is 5pm. If the text comes at 8am while you're at work, on a shift, or dealing with kids, it's easy to read it, think "later", and have it slip by. And an SMS can't tell you the night before to get your payslip ready.
A few habits that help:
| When | Reminder |
|---|---|
| Every payday | Save your payslip somewhere you can find it (a phone photo is fine). |
| The evening before your reporting date | Gather payslips or hours for the fortnight, for you and your partner. |
| Morning of your reporting date, at a time you're free | Do the report. Check the pre-filled income against your payslip. |
| Before a public holiday | Check myGov in case your reporting date has moved earlier. |
| As soon as your hours or pay change | Tell Centrelink within 14 days if you don't have scheduled reporting. |
If you have mutual obligation requirements (job searches, training or work experience), they're a separate set of tasks with their own dates. Keep them in their own reminders so one doesn't get mixed up with the other.
How ReminderIt can help
ReminderIt rings your phone at the time you choose and reads your reminder out in a natural voice. For example: "It's your Centrelink reporting day. Report your income before 5pm, and check the pre-filled amount against your payslip." A ringing phone is much harder to ignore than a text. If you miss the call, the reminder arrives on WhatsApp as well.
There are two easy ways to set it up:
- On the website, create one repeating reminder set to every 2 weeks, starting on your next reporting date, at a time you're usually free.
- On WhatsApp, just send a message such as "Call me on 20 October at 10am to do my Centrelink report." Your dates are visible 12 weeks ahead in myGov, so you can set the next few in one go.
If a public holiday moves your reporting date, skip that fortnight's call and add a one-off reminder for the new date. You can also add a reminder the evening before to get your payslips together.
If you're helping a son, daughter or parent stay on top of their reports, you can set the reminder to ring their phone instead. They confirm their number with a short verification call first, so nobody gets calls they didn't agree to.
There's a 7-day free trial with 7 reminder calls (3 if your number is in a country where calls cost more; Australia isn't one of them). After that it's one plan at US$7 a month.
The short answer
Your Centrelink reporting date usually comes every 14 days, and you need to report by 5pm on that date, even if you earned nothing. If you don't report, you aren't paid until you do. You can still report online up to 13 days after the reporting date; after that, you have to call your regular payment line. For JobSeeker, if you stop reporting every 2 weeks, your payment stops. Check pre-filled income against your payslip before you submit, fix mistakes straight away, and set a reminder for a time you're actually free, not just the SMS on the day.
