The 2026 Royal Mail Christmas dates: 2nd Class by Friday 18 December, Tracked 48 by Saturday 19 December, 1st Class and Tracked 24 by Monday 21 December, and Special Delivery by Wednesday 23 December. Forces mail goes much earlier.

Christmas cards and parcels have a habit of becoming urgent all at once. Royal Mail's last recommended posting dates for delivery before Christmas 2026 fall between 18 and 23 December, and the cheaper the service, the earlier the deadline. Forces mail and many international destinations are much earlier still. Here are the 2026 dates and a simple way to make sure nothing gets posted a day too late.

UK last posting dates for Christmas 2026 (Royal Mail)

  • Friday 18 December: 2nd Class and 2nd Class Signed For
  • Saturday 19 December: Royal Mail Tracked 48
  • Monday 21 December: 1st Class and 1st Class Signed For
  • Monday 21 December: Royal Mail Tracked 24
  • Wednesday 23 December: Special Delivery Guaranteed

These are the latest recommended dates for items to arrive by Christmas. They are not guarantees for every service, and Royal Mail notes that dates can change, so confirm them on Royal Mail's Christmas page before you rely on the last day. Posting a day or two earlier is the safest plan, especially if you're using a postbox with an early last collection.

Parcelforce

  • Monday 21 December: express48
  • Tuesday 22 December: express24, express AM and express10

As with Royal Mail, check Parcelforce directly before booking, because published dates can still change.

Forces mail (BFPO): much earlier

If you're sending to someone serving overseas, the deadlines come months before the UK ones:

  • 24 October 2026: Static Firm Base / PJOBs
  • 17 November 2026: Operations and HM Ships

The first of these is only days away. If it applies to you, it's worth doing this week.

International post

International dates vary by country and service (International Economy, International Standard and International Tracked & Signed). Economy surface mail to distant countries can need posting as early as October or November, while airmail dates fall in early to mid-December. Look up your destination in Royal Mail's country guides, then set your reminder a few days before that date.

Other things with a Christmas deadline

Posting is only one deadline. A few others tend to sneak up in December:

  • Online orders: retailers set their own cut-offs for Christmas delivery, often a few days before Royal Mail's.
  • Personalised gifts and photo books: these usually need ordering well before standard delivery cut-offs.
  • Card lists and addresses: gathering addresses takes longer than writing the cards.
  • Stamps: buying them early saves a queue at the Post Office in the last week.

A simple reminder plan

  1. This week: if you send forces mail to a firm base, post by 24 October.
  2. Early November: check international dates for anyone abroad; post cards and parcels for 17 November BFPO deadlines.
  3. Weekend of 5–6 December: write cards and pack parcels.
  4. Wednesday 16 December: post 2nd Class cards and parcels, two days before the 18 December date.
  5. Friday 18 December: last call for anything still on the list by 1st Class or Tracked 24.

How ReminderIt helps

A calendar alert for "post Christmas cards" is easy to swipe away in a busy December. ReminderIt rings your phone at the time you choose, with a natural voice reading your reminder, and sends a WhatsApp message with Done and Snooze. If you miss the call, it tries once more about 5 minutes later.

Set it up by messaging on WhatsApp in plain words, for example "Remind me on 16 December at 10am to post the 2nd Class Christmas cards". You can also set a reminder for a parent or grandparent who always posts parcels to family abroad. There's no app to install, and there's a 7-day free trial with no card. After that it's $7 a month.
