Diwali 2026 Dates and Muhurat Times: Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj
Diwali 2026 is Sunday 8 November; Lakshmi Puja in Delhi is 5:54 to 7:50 PM. Every date from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj, muhurat times for 10 cities, and why Bhai Dooj falls on the 11th this year.

Diwali 2026 is on Sunday 8 November, with Lakshmi Puja that evening. In New Delhi, Drik Panchang gives the Lakshmi Puja muhurat as 5:54 PM to 7:50 PM. The five days run from Dhanteras on Friday 6 November to Bhai Dooj on Wednesday 11 November.
This year has an unusual shape: the early-morning Narak Chaturdashi bath and the Lakshmi Puja fall on the same day, and there is an extra day between Diwali and Govardhan Puja. If a calendar you are using shows Bhai Dooj on the 10th, read on.
When is Diwali 2026?
Sunday 8 November 2026. India Post's official holiday list for 2026 shows "Diwali (Deepavali) 08-November-2026 Sunday", and Drik Panchang's Delhi calendar places Lakshmi Puja on the same date. Amavasya tithi, the new-moon day Diwali is tied to, begins at 11:27 AM on 8 November and ends at 12:31 PM on 9 November.
What are the Diwali 2026 dates, day by day?
From Drik Panchang's 2026 Diwali calendar for New Delhi, with its Delhi timings:
| Day | Date | Key time (New Delhi) |
|---|---|---|
| Dhanteras (Dhantrayodashi) | Friday 6 November | Puja 6:02 PM to 7:57 PM |
| Kali Chaudas, Hanuman Puja | Saturday 7 November | - |
| Narak Chaturdashi (Abhyang Snan) | Sunday 8 November | Bath 5:41 AM to 6:38 AM |
| Diwali, Lakshmi Puja | Sunday 8 November | Puja 5:54 PM to 7:50 PM |
| Diwali Snan, Devpuja | Monday 9 November | - |
| Govardhan Puja, Annakut | Tuesday 10 November | Morning puja 6:40 AM to 8:50 AM |
| Bhai Dooj (Bhau Beej) | Wednesday 11 November | Tilak 1:10 PM to 3:20 PM |
Why do some calendars show different dates for Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj?
Because Amavasya continues until 12:31 PM on Monday 9 November. Drik Panchang shows Pratipada tithi starting at 12:31 PM on the 9th and ending at 2:00 PM on the 10th, so it places the morning Govardhan Puja on Tuesday 10 November. Dwitiya tithi then runs from 2:00 PM on the 10th to 3:53 PM on the 11th, and the Bhai Dooj afternoon window falls on Wednesday 11 November.
Some websites list Govardhan Puja on 9 November and Bhai Dooj on 10 November, simply moving each one day after Diwali as in most years. Regional calendars can also differ. If your family follows a particular panchang or priest, use theirs, and check the dates now rather than the week before.
What time is Lakshmi Puja on Diwali 2026?
In New Delhi, 5:54 PM to 7:50 PM on Sunday 8 November. Drik Panchang's reasoning: Lakshmi Puja is best done during Pradosh Kaal, the period that "starts after sunset and approximately lasts for 2 hours and 24 minutes", while a fixed (sthir) lagna is rising. In Delhi this year, Pradosh Kaal is 5:31 PM to 8:09 PM and Vrishabha Kaal is 5:54 PM to 7:50 PM, so the muhurat is the overlap.
It also lists a late-night Mahanishita Kaal muhurat (11:39 PM to 12:31 AM), but says that window is best suited to the tantrik community and practising pandits: "For common people we propose Pradosh Kaal Muhurat."
Times change with sunset, so use your own city. Drik Panchang's local times for 8 November:
| City | Lakshmi Puja muhurat |
|---|---|
| New Delhi | 5:54 PM to 7:50 PM |
| Mumbai | 6:27 PM to 8:27 PM |
| Kolkata | 5:20 PM to 7:18 PM |
| Chennai | 6:07 PM to 8:09 PM |
| Bengaluru | 6:17 PM to 8:20 PM |
| Hyderabad | 6:07 PM to 8:08 PM |
| Pune | 6:24 PM to 8:24 PM |
| Ahmedabad | 6:22 PM to 8:20 PM |
| Jaipur | 6:03 PM to 7:59 PM |
| Chandigarh | 5:52 PM to 7:46 PM |
What time is the Narak Chaturdashi bath in 2026?
5:41 AM to 6:38 AM in New Delhi on Sunday 8 November, a window of 57 minutes. Drik Panchang times Abhyang Snan, the traditional oil bath, from moonrise while Chaturdashi tithi is still running (it ends at 11:27 AM that day).
This is the one Diwali time that needs an alarm. It comes on a Sunday, after a late Saturday night, on the same day as the evening puja. If you want to keep it, set the wake-up the night before for a few minutes before the window opens, and make it something you cannot switch off in your sleep.
Which Diwali times are worth a reminder?
Most of the festival takes care of itself. The times that slip are the ones that are short, early, or depend on someone else being ready:
- Abhyang Snan, 8 November: a wake-up before 5:41 AM (Delhi).
- Lakshmi Puja, 8 November: a reminder 30 minutes before your city's muhurat, so the thali and diyas are ready when it opens rather than when the window is half gone.
- Dhanteras, 6 November: the evening puja, and any shopping you meant to finish before it.
- Govardhan Puja, 10 November: a morning window, 6:40 AM to 8:50 AM in Delhi, two days after Diwali.
- Bhai Dooj, 11 November: the tilak window is 1:10 PM to 3:20 PM in Delhi, on a Wednesday. If you are in different cities, agree a video-call time with your brother or sister now, during their lunch hour rather than yours.
- Parents and grandparents: if an older relative does the puja, a call at the right time can save a day of checking calendars on their behalf.
If family abroad are joining by video, remember the muhurat is in Indian time. 6:00 PM in Delhi is 12:30 PM in London on 8 November, after the clocks go back.
How ReminderIt can help
ReminderIt places a real phone call at the exact time you choose and reads your reminder in a natural voice, for example "Good morning. Abhyang Snan window opens at 5:41." If you miss the call, you get a WhatsApp message.
You can set it by sending a WhatsApp message (text, voice note or a photo of your panchang page) such as "Call me on 8 November at 5:25am for the Diwali bath", or on the website. There is no app to install. You can also set reminders for a family member, such as a call to your parents before the Lakshmi Puja muhurat; they confirm first before any calls go to their number.
There is a 7-day free trial with 7 free reminder calls (3 if your number is in a country where calls cost more). After that it is one plan: ₹299 a month in India or $7 a month elsewhere, with annual and 2-year options.
The short answer
Diwali 2026 is Sunday 8 November. Lakshmi Puja in New Delhi is 5:54 PM to 7:50 PM (check your city), and the Narak Chaturdashi bath is the same morning, 5:41 AM to 6:38 AM. Dhanteras is Friday 6 November, and Drik Panchang places Govardhan Puja on Tuesday 10 November and Bhai Dooj on Wednesday 11 November, a day later than some calendars show.
